Health officials have banned a potentially harmful ingredient found in popular sodas, candies, and other snacks. The FDA said Tuesday it will ban the use of brominated vegetable oil (BVO) - which has been linked to a slew of health issues - in new products beginning August 2. From that date, manufacturers of existing items containing BVO will have a year to change their recipes or face fines and legal action.
