COPS as we speak shut the M1 as they urgently hunted an armed suspect who fled a criminal offense scene on foot.
The man, who was carrying a baseball bat, damaged a house and a car in Ballfield Lane, Barnsley, earlier immediately before fleeing.
He reportedly headed in the direction of junction 38 of the M1 – forcing police to close the most important street.
A South Yorkshire Police spokesman stated: "Officers have been referred to as at 12.14pm earlier at this time following stories a person armed with a baseball bat had broken a property and a car on Ballfield Lane in the Kexbrough area of Barnsley.
"The man later fled in the direction of the M1 and reportedly went on the exhausting shoulder near junction 38.
"The motorway was shut in each directions near the junction as officers tried to locate the suspect.
"The M1 has since reopened and efforts stay ongoing to locate the suspect."
